Post by DerbiJiiF »

Ok, this is not the typical topic that you find across this forum. Now, if you have something constructive to contribute, please join us while we are wrestling with these type of mind wrecking question. PLZ, respect the opinion of others, and no derogatory remarks

When you throw a pair of dice, what are the chances that the number that comes up will be even?

Little bit of statictis (probability knowlage) will help, but not necessary.

PLZ: I know others will try to introduce new puzzle ( drailing the topic)--- let's answer this first then we can open a new topic for it.

I will post others as we continue along.

For now, let's get started Confused Confused Confused

The odds are 1/1. You will throw an even number every time.

I was wrong, when you get an even number in 1 die and an odd number in the other die, they add up to an odd number. Statistics was never my strong subject.

Could it be 1 in 3?

E + E = E
E + O = O
O + O = E

Nope, not even close, but keep trying it. Hint: try to figure out how many odds and evens are possible..... A good starting point

Third time is the charm, hopefully.

Each die has six numbers, half of which are even (E) and half odd (O).

Possible combinations:
E + E = E
E + O = O
O + O = E
O + E = O

The two combinations that lead to an even number is E + E and O + O. Probability of getting even in one die AND even in the other die is 1/4 (1/2*1/2). Probability of getting odd in one die AND odd in the other is also 1/4. The sum of these two probabilities is 1/2.

My final answer is 1/2.

ok let me see

your odds are 1+2= 3

1+4= 5 and so on

your evens are

1+1=2

1+3=4

and so on

so finally we have 12/9 my final answer is

4 and 1

Solution:
There are 6 possible even numbers that can come up and they are:
2,4,6,8,10 and 12. (remeber: you are tossing a pair = 2 dices-- not one)

Intelx -- you are asked even numbers, not odds.
And since you insist the odds, there are only 5 possible numbers and they are as following: 3,5,7,9 and 11.
