Re: Waryaa
Waryaa,
I always stocked up from Nairobi. My key essentials were: Rubber gloves, Cipro (to combat diarrhea), Metrodinazole (for dysentery), Malarone (for antimalaria), artemisinin (to cure malaria), an Epipen (for an serious allergic reaction), bandages, gauze, stiching kit, anticongulate, dressing, Oxycontin (for severe pain), Zithromax (for upper respiratory infections), thermometer, tylenol (worth its weight in gold), antibiotic cream, mosquito repellent, a dozen syringes (don't trust the ones @ the hospital), basic tropical disease book (on treating common diseases).
I had it all packed in a small bag which I kept on me at all times. I can not tell you how often its been helpful. I had to bandage up one of my staff who got wounded once and stopped the bleeding. When I was in Garowe, I came down with dysentery and patched up myself quickly. In Xamar, I treated my entire staff who came down with some serious stomach bug (I always avoided eating from the local restaruants which are unsanitary, had an excellent Mushunguli cook who made the best meals for me after I gave him a through instruction on food safety).
I am also registering for a medic course inshallah.
So Warya, are you married ? Before you take the plunge, make sure she is TESTED. You can easily score those testing kits @ UNICEF/UNAIDS.

awahab, the only trip I brought something is this time and it was that mosquito repentant you advised me to take. About the HIV/etc. I can say I am pretty much safe in the HIV department. My stomach is always at odds with local foods. The first three few are always the hardest.

Waryaa,
Beware of the water and general sanitation. I never had stomach issues in Xamar at all. Galakcyo, Garowe were the worst due to eating at maqaxi.
Btw, if you ever need any medical treatment let me know. I got a several good friends who are doctors down there.
