Kolombo,

Saxiib, aren't you supposed to ground the Heyl first.

I ground the heyl, add the tea leaves, add 1/3 cup of sugar (I like sweet tea) and let it boil.

Personally, I prefer the Swahili tea where you add milk and let the mix heat up
lol

Chai ya maziwa taste better than south somali shaah (kadii dhameer)

What? No. We don't add ginger.

We mostly add ginger to Somali Coffee. The only time I add ginger is when I have cold.

Yeah like Kolombo said, but I thought the cloves was added towards the end when you are about to add the tea bag. However, you would let the cinnamon and cardamom boil together for a bit, apparently the Cloves kill the taste of the Shaah. I should warn you though no one likes my tea (apart from my non-Somali friends).

Make yourself clear, and stop saying apparently, we all know you don't care for peoples feelings. (Helwa springs to mind)

Nothing is better then Somali style tea!
Americans don't know how to make tea, most of them love it, when they taste it!

All you need to do is make it proportional, and cook everything, the tea bag, the flavors together all in one pot!
This is recipe is for a family of five

You put water in a pot and bring it to boil
then add two tea bags (depending on the level of water , two tea bags for family usually)
then add a cup of sugar
then add the spices ( cinnamon (somali word=qorfo), cardomom (heel), Clove (dhaga-yare) and ginger (zenjabiil) that gives it's somali flavor, don't put too much of this as it will over spice it, just use a couple of it)
Add milk and serve warm!
it's delicious and addictive!
