Paste it yourself walaalo. Business or not, next time, write it down. That is a very simple thing to do to protect yourself.

If you dont think this is the best way to protect yourself from others, then, belaahi Alayek brother don't come here and post your calcaal about ehelkaga. After all, i do think Somalis are nothing but one big family unless you have other thoughts

PS: isn't xaal a compensation rather than a solution in this phrase : " aduunyooy xaal qaado"?

Aww miskiin. I agree with Navy9 next time get it in writing, lol. I should start doing that myself horta. I'm always lending money to people, and I never get it back. I'm always too shy to ask for it back. :|

Sagaashan,

Talking of lending to somalis, I recently I had to put up with someone parting 20k plus of my hard earned cash (I had to admit it put a dent on my finance) and can you believe it was someone aanu xillo isku lahayn so there was very little avenue for manouvering on my side (I felt being robbed). The hard part for me to swallow was they lied about the circumstances in which I lent at the first place, the guy I lent was a businessman and he said he had problem with his cashflows and he would give the money back in 3-4 weeks (just waiting some L/Cs, Cheques to clear). His business was sound and ony needed some liguidity aka cash to do something urgent (according to him).

I called a business associate whom I told to give that amount to the said person (no thirty party knew, no contract written) I didn't even explain properly to my associate the circumstances into which I was lendin this money and he didn't probe any further. After the agreed time lapsed, I approached the guy and told him to pay me back the money I lent, sheekooyin aan meeshan laga sheegi karin ayuu iila yimid, anyway after consulting with some elders of the family (imediate family that is) their unanamous advice was that I let it go, I was furious and couldn't understand their rationale however I had to go with it.

Tel me what was their excuse, I want to know, was it a flat denial (dafiraad indho adag), twisting the fact (waji adayg) or Iga qalee sxb (never ending excuses)...

Marka ay dhaheen gobolada dhexe dadka ka yimaada waa indho adagyihiin walle been ma ahan, I had witnessed first hand....

Sagaashaan:- True. Now I just make sure make the intention of sadaqa before giving it. I've realized Somalis are not easy people to deal with when it comes to money. :|

looyaan_junior

first i want to send you my heart felt condolences on the money you lost. it is a true tragedy. waxaad is soo xasuusisay sheeko la yiri nin gaajeysnaa oo wadada marayay baa waxaa ka hor yimid dadyo kale oo gaaja la dhiban ayaguna. ninkii bey waxay isku dayeen in ey wax wiidiistaan oo hadii uu yabay yiri 'yaan inika nili cunin' waad maqashay baan u maleyn ooraahdii baa iga maqane, xagaa iyo galbeedka mid ka yimid oo aan saaxibo nahay baa ii sheegay. the point is here i am at complaining about few hundreds, adiguna waxaad la timid thousands. but looyaan_junior, that was a big undertaking. i dont know how you could do such a transaction without delibaretly and strictly thinking about it. the guys i loaned where former friends of mine who i have known on a religious terms. very good people, and we have done it all together. casharo, subac, dugsiyo, maxaadaro, traveling, you name it if its xaal we have do it. one guy was in urgent need. very urgent, like being evicted from his house. i never thought life could get that desperate. you generally dont want to lend to someone who is at that level. but two reason why i given in, one i have known him, and secondly, their was a previous loan that he gave back on a timely manner. so there was no doubt on my mind that i would get the second installments as he promised. the day of the promise comes, no call. i was in no rush. i made the call the next day, no answer. two weeks no answer. three, nada. the think that has gotten me mad is that why not pick up the phone and say 'i cant pay' or 'i need some time.' i would have felt much better if i had known that money would never come back. plus i dont even know what happened to the guy, maybe he is in a worst position than i am anticipating. but i have taken the money out of my system and will somehow come back to me in tenfold. Looyaan, you should think of your circumstances as such. they say some learn the hard way, damn did they test you man.

ps xillo waa maxay? ma hagbad baa mise tol mise guur

lol, there's nothing unique about my san.

Yes, I've heard that expression before. It's true. Somalis see kindness as a weakness, sadly. For me it's just money iyo resources, if a relative or a friend or even just a Somali person came to me asking for help, I couldn't find it in my heart to turn them down. I've been told to change this habit countless times, but yeah, somethings about yourself you just can't change. :|
