ES,
No, they are not the same group. The Gabbra are closer to the Boran.

Gabra, Rendile are all closer to somalis than Boranas.AbdiWahab252 wrote:Enlightened~Sista wrote:Voltage are they the same as the Gabbra?

What world do you live in? There has never been any "sensitive issue" on Somali identity. What Somalis have you met or literature on Somalis have you dealt with? Please bring it because I want to see it.bareento wrote:Hello Snetters,
With the Rendilles and Gabras , we touch a very sensitive issue on Somali and Oromo identity.
The question is wats Somalinimmo and Oromumma? Is it a blood relation (having common ancestor) and/or aknowlodging assimilation

What is Somali and what is not is very easily defined and it is along the lines of Dir, Darood, Isaaq, Hawiye, and Raxanweyn are ethnic Somali. There is only one problem with the Garre (Garri) group who are divided into Garre of Afgooye who are under Raxanweyn and the Garre of Mandeera who although speaking Borana language never deny their ethnic Somali heritage.
The first time Gabbra have ever been synonymized with Somalis in my history of dealing with my people is in this topic and by this Bareento person. I met Gabbra's in Kenya. They call themselves "Orma".
As for Rendille, they speak a language that is a result of at least a thousand years of fission if Cushitic was a single language so what confusion can there be about a people whose language is as old as ours being Somali?

Yes, they are. Thank you for reminding me to call them

Never underestimate Voltage.The_Patriot wrote:A/Wahab have some respect arent your cousins 1/2 Borana?

This is only a figment of your imagination. Daily I criticize my people for being zenophobic, racist, and hostile to all peoples and you are claiming the one ethnic group in the Horn of Africa which prizes pedigree and even has a little cast system on father descent is "assimilating" anyone particularly an known Oromo group. I do not know whether to laugh or not.bareento wrote:Thats is why I took the exemple of the Gabra, 50 years ago they were perfectly identified to Borans(Oromo) and lately r being more and more identified to Somalis...in some years they will be totally assimilated into Somali nation, and a genealogy will come and legitimize their Somalinimmo.
