Voltage wrote:Roving are you talking about Professor Afyare Abdi Elmi? In such a short time, this guy has risen to be my favorite Somali academic. The Samatars (both) have a very abrasive, condescending, and even arrogant personality and I get the sense they have ulterior motives but Professor Afyare is an academic in every sense of the word.

Yea, I am talking about him. He is ok, but you will love anyone that furthers your dream of annexing Gedo to Kenya

Bro, don't be quick to totally support someone. Afyare might seem as an informed intellectual but he is an Islamist at heart and am not making empty accusations.

Are you comparing Sharif to a professor of international relations and who wrote that above impressive piece?

Analogy, my friend. As I said, some people were calling Sharif as some sort of a great orator. If you look things from a superficial angle, even the most usual things in life will appear impressive. Everyone has an ulterior motive and especially someone like Afyare. Rest assured, noone writes policy papers that will be read by hundreds of thousands of people and which will be published by Al Jazeera without having having an ulterior motive. Those that know Afyare, know where he stands on things and the less said, the better.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant, what exactly are you implying? I will give you the benefit of the doubt but to me it reeks of the infamous Somali prejudice.

Why would I be prejudiced against him when the man went to school with my cousins and is very close to my other cousins in Qatar? Lol

I never questioned the man personally, but am not buying his political positions and nor am I impressed. You are entitled to your opinions and it is good to keep an open mind

was this article written by the Afyare Elmi?

I have seen him interviewed on al-jazeera and he does come across as quite agreeable.

When he was asked to express his views on somaliland several times, he showed a level headedness and objectivity that you never get from somali intellectuals ....

He is against somaliland, but you can see it is not motivated by clan hate, but by something else, maybe somali nationalism or Islam?

basically i am saying that even though his arguments were anti-somaliland, he was not offensive
which is quite refreshing.

I don't know much about his dad, but I can find it out. I know for a fact he was raised up by his uncle who is the originator of the Ahlu Shiekh brand
