Gurey25, . Didn't each of the rightly guided caliphs come to the 'throne' after being chosen by a group of other pious/wise men .i.e shura? It isn't exactly democracy nor dictatorship, but what do you mean by the truth? ..you should expand on it more.
thats only one small aspect ,
it will take an entire post and allot of pages to try to explain it, but let me summuraize.

The rule of the khalifas and most of the other muslim dawlas were based on 2 diametrically opposed poles.
on one hand you have extremly centralized exexutive power almost to the point of dictatorial in the person of the amir or khalifa
and then on ther other end you have the extremly decentralized almost to the point of anarchism in which day to day governance occurred.
There was no state in the modern sense of the world
and the Khulafa al rashidun, the bani ummaya the bani abass and many more did not even have 10% of the political power and control over the population that a democratically elected leader like Obama has today.

no people ruled themselves, and did not require a police force or CCTV surveillance or jails.
The amirs concerned themselves with upholding shareeca, unifying weights and measurements , collecting and distributing zakat
and dealing with the lands in dar ul xarb . i.e foriegn relations and jihad.

The reason why most of the muslim countries and the thirdworld have oppressive governments even when they are " democracies"
is that they were colonized.
The colonialists imposed a harsh legal system to control the population and allow the taxing of resources.
When these countries became independant , nobody changed the legal system they all kept them but they serve the native power elite
who in turn serve the banking oligarchy which was behind their former colonizers in the first place.

basically to summarize we are all under colonialism, it never left.

example.. the countries of Syria and Iraq have had oppressive governments since becoming colonies/protectorates of the french and British.
The people discovered that after independance, the did not have the rights and freedom they had under the " Opressive and Evil" Ottoman Turkish regime.

talk about irony , their great granparents lived better lives had more freedom and dignity under the rule of those evil turks.

What about the fact that were governors appointed for each part, like al-sham and al-hijaz. And also there were hisbah men appointed to supervise the marketplaces no?

There is hope in most places though. We saw what happened in Senegal with Wade admitting defeat in the presidential run-off. Corruption, power and wealth are the three main reasons that limits progress with governance in Africa.

Africans are too tolerant of their leaders, and when Africans finally rise up and take arms against their leaders they destroy everything and anything.

In a democracy everybody can aspire to the top leadership position .
In a monarchy a whole class of people { related the monarch} will automatically assume privileges just for they are
A dictator is just a fool waiting to be shot

BV , one country made it , Mauritius { an island in the indian ocean}
