It's all in her head.

She probably associates Somali names with qaxooti FOBs she encountered and it has nothing to do with the 'ugliness' of the names.

Some Somalis have this retarded mentality of associating Somali names with backwardness and Arabic names with progression. It does not make any sense.

We do have our own names, there's nothing ugly with having a traditonal Somali name, you would have to understand Somali in order to deem a name ugly; can you read Somali poetry? If your answer is no then you can't possibly be a judge of what's a beautiful or ugly Somali name.
I can read aaf somali but my vocab is limited. I don't have to understand, the sound of the names just dont sound nice.
I hope you don't listen to music with that same logic because you will miss out on some gems...

The names are beautiful

We just don't know what they mean so it's difficult to connect. You just associate them with being "old"

Why on earth would you name your kid a name from a culture that is not your own?

Arab names  Isterliin and Istanbun  Turkish drama names

Liibaan - One who is successful, eg. 'Qofkaasi wuu liibaanay'
Ayaanle - The fortunate one, eg 'qofkaasi wuu ayaan badanyahay'. Didn't know it was also pre-islamic angel.
Dalmar - one who is well travelled and thus waayo arag and cultured.

Yurub is a type of tree in Somali. It has nothing to do with the continent.

I remember reading something about Ayan-Ayanle being some sort of angelic figures shared by Somalis, Oromos, and I suppose other Cushitic speakers.

Here's some other names and their meanings I found online, not sure how accurate they are though:

Abshir- Congratulations, Joy
Deeqa- sufficient
Hodan- lucky
Hibo-gift
Idil-complete
mahad-appreciation, gift
Burhan- charismatic
Cawaale-lucky

You can find more here

Isn't Libaan thank you or something to that effect..
I remember my grandad always used to say 'libaan quruxbadan' to me as a child when I used to brush his hair for him and I always replied with 'maha libaan wa so and so'.. :|
