Amateur Somali Analysis: Global Perspectives

Postby Gedo_Boy » Sat May 12, 2007 7:22 am

These are my prelim thoughts on what these 2 entities are secretly thinking.

US:
Just relieved the ICU is gone. Aside from a few publicity stunts to show that they are marginally behind the TFG, they will just go back to letting Somalia aspire to define the meaning of failed state for the 3rd decade running. They will be satisfied to be able to call occasional favors through a few grateful psuedo-political warlords.

EU:
Anxious to appear relevant without blatantly challenging/trampling over the US's 'anti-terror' campaign, they will try to gain some semblance of influence by sending a few envoys here and there and engaging in some public humanitarian projects. They will be crossing their fingers that Somalia is turning the corner but pragmatism will advise otherwise.
