Hawiye are the Ethnic Group the Hadiya

Postby Sadaam_Mariixmaan » Sun May 13, 2007 8:44 pm

i think the Hadiya and Hawiye of Ethiopia and Somalia are kinsmen

"The first reference to the Hawiye dates to the 13th-century writings of the Arab geographer, Ibn Sa'id, who describes Merca as the "capital of Hawiye country". The 12th-century cartographer Muhammad al-Idrisi may have referred to the Hawiye as well, as he called Merca the region of the "Hadiye", which Herbert S. Lewis believes is a scribal error for "Hawiye", as do Guilliani, Schleicher, and Cerulli."

"Hadiya was a powerful vassal kingdom of Ethiopia, located in southwestern Ethiopia, south of the Abbay River and west of Shewa. It acquired its name from its inhabitants, the Hadiya.

The earliest surviving mention of Hadiya is in the Kebra Nagast (ch. 94), indicating that it was in existence by the 13th century.[1] Many kings of the Ethiopian central government were married to women from Hadiya; the powerful Queen Eleni of Hadiya is one example.

Currently Hadiya is the name of a Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People's Region. Most of the Hadiya people live within its boundaries."
