The footballing star received an OBE in 2003 and is tipped to become a Sir in the 2007 New Year Honours following his work for the London Olympic bid. Whispers in Whitehall have also suggested the move could be motivated by Tony Blair's anxiety to be seen as a populist Prime Minister.
If the former England captain is knighted, his wife would transform from Posh Spice to Lady Beckham - a name in keeping with their country residence nicknamed 'Beckingham Palace.'
The title would see Beckham launched into the company of English footballing greats including Sir Geoff Hurst, Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Moore. --Can he honestly match them?
I personally don't think he deserves it, because 1stly--today Beckham is more of a Label and a showbiz royalty than a dedicated Player and 2ndly--With his move to Galaxy LA, it has proved Beckham has other intensions than just playing footie for his country. 3rdly--With him in LA, he is no longer payng taxes in the UK. Contribution wise he has limited his chances to get something back from the British.
