Jubbaland was under British Rule. There were succesive Rebellions by Harti, Mareexaan and Ogaadeen. But they never amounted to much. The bloodiest and most drawn out was the Cawlyahan rebellion led by Abdiraxmaan Mursal.

Biyamaal were obviously fighting in their land in Shabeelada Hoose and they made the life of the Italians pure hell.

Biyamaal resistance was second only to the Darwiish Jihaad resistance in the north.

I have documented this, you can check my posts in the Gedo section. The small unplanned rebellion of the minority Harti was squashed. Mursal was a goverment agent who only rebelled and got arrogant after he witnessed Mareexaan's rapid land-grabbings. He was later defeated by the Mareexaan.

The Galti Mareexaan were the ones who posed a real threat to the British. They were the ones who forced the British to call batalions from Uganada to battle the Mareexaan.

Abdirixman mursal is the same guy who sides with the british to try and squash the Marexaan Galti. After they were unsuccessful, and the british became very willing to the Marexaan galti demands he wrote a letter to the queen informing that the British leaders here were siding with the Marexaan galti, who were the "enemy." Do not try to make this guy into something he was not; your right about one thing the small harti rebellion was squashed and most of the ogaden were obedient, and the cawliyahan sided with the infidels to fight against Marexaans, so did garre and some other Somali clans.

tomorrow I will post British estimates of Darwiish strengths. Cant remember now but there were numbered among the Darwiish a Mareexaan contingent, more than a thousand strong I think. At least.

I read some histories of Daarood uprisings in Jubbaland. But they were not anywhere close to the Biyamaal uprising in terms of intensity and duration.

Correct, the Garre and Ogaadeen were sending numerous complaints to the British after the Galti Mareexaan raided them.

It is written in 'A Study in the Military History of East and Central Africa'

"South of the plateau lay the countries of the Ogaden and Gurreh. The Galti were soon raiding both, with the natural result that they also sought to arm themselves with rifles, and gun-running across the frontier increased accordingly. Worst of the tree sections was the Ahmed Wet under their chief Shire, who was reported to be one of the Mullah's followers and consistently refused to meet the government."

Cabduraxmaan Mursal is the man who burned Serinley and all the British who were in there. He also killed British inside NFD. You cant take away from the Man's glory and his love for Gaal blood.

SB, Mursal and his Ogaadeen army were subdued with mere 100 soldiers.

He had immense hatred for Reer Axmed since they kept raiding the Cawlyahan.

O.K, I have a Cali Gari friend, who's grandfather was a well known scholar who migrated to Wamo to flee the Darawish wars. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't him, because they have the same last name. Laughing

What is your point exactly? That Mursal never fought against the English? Or that he was an opportunistic fighter who was not motivated by higher ideals?

There may be something to the latter. I dont think any of the Jubbaland uprisings were sophisticated and principled enough to be grouped with the Biyamaal and Darwiish uprisings.

But you cannot deny the man his Powerful daring, fighting spirit and initiative in taking on the powerful British empire and slaughtering its officers.
