Teenage gang victim executed at just 16
Boy,16, hunted by hoodie gang

By Laurie Hanna And Greig Box Turnbull Laurie.Hanna@Mirror.Co.Uk 27/07/2007
TEENAGE gang victim Abukar Mahamed was blasted in the face by "ninja" hoodies as he cowered in terror behind a tree yesterday.

Somalian Abukar, 16, was cruelly hunted down on bikes by up to seven youths with their faces hidden by bandanas.

The lad, who had spent the day playing PlayStation with a cousin, died instantly.

A neighbour who was first on the scene on a lawless estate in South London said: "I saw a gang of lads on BMX bikes riding after a young lad running away.

"There wasn't any shouting. The boy was darting around looking for where to escape.

"He was running really fast and hid behind a tree. He was cornered.

"The gang surrounded him and shot him in the face. I didn't even hear him scream.

"The boys just cycled off. They didn't seem in a hurry. The lad was covered in blood. There was nothing we could do to help him."

Abukar was the 17th teenager to be knifed or shot to death in London this year. Last night his parents and three brothers were distraught. He was gunned down in the early hours on the Stockwell Gardens estate, in Stockwell.

Two guns were used in the attack. One woman said: "I heard three shots and saw hoodies dressed in black racing off." Another resident said she heard five shots.

Forensic officers scoured the estate for clues. They also searched a flat with windows believed to have been hit by bullets.

Fearful residents too scared to give their names said the estate - nicknamed Hot Spot - was plagued by thugs carrying weapons.

One resident said: "I've seen teenagers riding through here with guns in their hands. It's completely lawless."

Another said: "I'm terrified for my children. It's a frightening atmosphere."

A woman added: "The youths round here are like packs of wolves."

The killing was just 100 yards from where Jean Charles de Menezes was shot dead by police who mistook him for a terrorist.

Police said: "The teenage victim was running away from youths on bikes."
