Two journalists killed in Somalia
Two Somali journalists have been killed in the capital Mogadishu in separate attacks within hours of each other.

The owner of HornAfrik radio and television, Ali Iman Sharmake, died when his car exploded after apparently running over a landmine.

He had just been to the funeral of one of his leading radio presenters, Mahad Ahmed Elmi, shot dead hours earlier.

Praising his colleague hours before his own death, Ali Iman Sharmake said: "Elmi was a symbol of neutrality."

Colleagues said Elmi was shot dead by two gunmen close to the radio station on his way to work.

The killing was meant to prevent a real voice that described the suffering in Mogadishu to other Somalis and to the world, Elmi was a symbol of neutrality

Sharmake was hit by what appeared to be a remote-controlled landmine on his way home from Elmi's funeral.

Reuters reporter Sahal Abdulle, who was sitting next to him, was lightly injured.

Journalistic independence

It is unclear who was responsible for the attacks.

Sharmake said in his tribute to Elmi, quoted by the Associated Press: "The killing was meant to prevent a real voice that described the suffering in Mogadishu to other Somalis and to the world."

HornAfrik - which also relays BBC Somali service programmes - prides itself on its journalistic independence, and its broadcasts have in the past angered both the government and Islamist opposition.

A number of local and foreign journalists have been killed in recent years.

Mogadishu has been the scene for months of skirmishes between troops supporting the transitional government and both clan-based and Islamist insurgents.

The TFG was obviously behind it. Who else would want to prevent a real voice that described the suffering in Mogadishu?

Allehu naxariisto Marxuumka.

Actually as of late Hornafrik has been pro-TFG in there stance. The irony is you guys don't know that the owner of Hornafrik is a good friend of Seyoum Mesfin the Ethiopian FM. So why would the Habeshi do this? Why would the TFG do this to hornafrik when the idiots of shabelle could easily get killed since they are the most prominent of the Qarandiids.

Plus his worker was killed a few hours before. He was attending his funeral and he was killed by armed people. This roadside bomb was after the funeral so this was planned out.

Hornafrik became Pro government and there people are hunted.

Whoever did it, has now upped the anty.

But to KILL JOURNALISTS in such a cowardly way, is despicable.

There will be a lot of consequences as the Marxuum Sharmarke was well connected to the US, Ethiopian FM, the TFG, and the Resistance.

He served as a conduit among all warring parties.

Rumor has it that he was to be the next PM in a grand bargain between the warring parties.

[So why would the Habeshi do this?]

To blame the ICU? The American and British occupiers tried similar tactics in Iraq; it didn't work.

Arabman

You obviously have no clue. When Maxamed Dheere sent his moryaans to Hornafrik he was told by the Habeshi minister to not hurt his buddy. You think they would do this to there own friend?

If anybody would be assasinated it would be the shabelle media people. Those guys are the ones who constantly attack the government.
