NoAngst, A powerful Maakhir and Puntland will effectively and jointly combat the secessionists Isaaq. Angst, I missed your satirical point of the desolate nature of the North. Not all of the North are desert and desolate land scape. The Al Madow Land Scape is a magnficent and attractive pasture with waterfalls and fertile area. Galgala alone exports many types of fruits. Besides, our region is a major candidate for oil , gas, and minerals. It is very rich region once its resources are tapped.

Ironic that the 'desolate' northeast is in better shape politically, economically than the south with the bountiful rain. Land is never an issue, it's the ingenuity and resourcefulness of people that make or break a society.

Ican, he forget to mention the fertile Jubaland, which is a traditional land for the Daarood.
