Grant,

Thanks! Hepatis B is also called "Cagaarshow" meaning the yellowing disease, since the body's pigment turns yellow, the urine turns yellow and the eye retina also turns yellow.

I am mostly interested in the other types of Hepatitis e.g. A & C.

Arabman,

Thanks for the links. The dictionary is very limited. If you know the names in Somali, feel free to throw them in.

Jazakallah Khairan!

Masha Allah Advo! Thanks a bunch. You did very good for a kid who left Somalia while still in diapers... Laughing Laughing

Regarding Rectum, my mother called it a Malawad and it sounded very alien to me, I almost broke out in laughter... Laughing

Koronto,

I have never seen the symptoms of Hep B, but I have seen A and it is the yellow color you describe for B. All I know is that B destroys liver function and C is almost always acquired by drug users sharing needles.

I was told that yellow eyes in Somalia was also an indicator for malaria. ???

I don't know. Malaria symptoms are mainly: fever, shivers, feeling cold, nausea and vomiting. It is also Africa's number #1 killing disease, followed by cholera. While in America, the #1 killing disease is non-infectious i.e. cancer followed by diabetes.

I have encountered all kinds of whack Somali over the years..I used to work for a refugee resettlement agency and met all kinds of people. The Bantus were always the funniest (nice people for the most part), but their Somali was interesting... Laughing

Cawar,

You know your stuff! Thanks a million bro.

I am very grateful to all those who responded. I just wanted to make sure I had all the terminologies covered. My company asked me to translate some pamphlets in to Somali and I gotta hand in the papers by friday.
