Well the problem with all this is , nationalism has been trampled by religious fanaticism .

Ina Baxar, there's no difference between Nationalism and religious fanaticism save for their source of legitimacy. Nationalism uses Peace of Westphalia as it source and Islamic fanaticism uses the Caliphate as it source. Both are after the same thing. POWER.

Warsame , I'm not an expert on a lot of things but Somalis tend to resort and exhibit in a aggressive manner the religious banner when they couldn't solve their pronlems ANY other way.
WE{ the people of Somaliland} have so far worked our shyte pretty successfully , why can't you all do the same ??!! We are as tribal if not more than y'all. Find solutions , compromise , talk to each other do something , but I don't believe imposing Sharia and declaring yourselves an Islamic State would make it any better.
Just look at the darood in here calling the ICU a hawiye organisation when we all know many many daroods were in it.

Ina Baxar, I was not talking about the ICU and their distorted objectives but I was suprised to hear someone mention that the Caliphate is a foreign concept akin to the Islamic teachings.

Firstly, I agree with you, the reason why ICU failed was due their fanaticism and their distortions of the Islamic teachings and I have already covered this during the time they were in power. Allah (SWT) would never allow his Party to be defeated like that unless there is something majorly wrong with those profress to be follow the religion. This is why the Palestinians, and all the Muslim rebels in Iraq and elsewhere have problems defeating our enemies whilst in the past we were running them over.

Secondly, I believe in Khalifa (Caliphate) as the only solution for Somalia but in order for that happen, it has to be implemented in several stages. The ignorant ICU forced it on the people with a harsh and arrogant attitude thinking that they were on the right path and the people were not. There are ignorant Muslims who scream "Khalifa, Khalifa" 24/7 but have no idea that rectification comes first leading to having the same 'aqidah (belief) and manhaj (methodology).

The Pre-Islamic Carabs were heavy alcoholic users however the commandant detailing the prohibition of alcohol was not revealed in one go but in different stages over the years. so that it would be easy for them to gradually adopt. Similiary, a Caliphate should be adopted in the same stages.

And that solution is found in the Glorious Qur'an:

Allah (SWT) says in Surah Ar-Rad:
"Surely Allah will not change the condition of a people till they change that which is within themselves."

And this hits the nail on the head on the present condition of the Muslim community and their lack of adhering to the Islamic principles.
