Musika, what is important is not whether his ethnicity is mentioned in the Conquest of Abyssinia book by Shihab or not but who participated the campaign.

Another correlation you have to make can another Leader of the same calibre emerge from the same tribe? Both questions draw positive answers for the struggle of Muslim Somalia against Abyssinia.

We should not deny or dilute our history with uncertainty and doubts just because one Tribe played major role and were significant. Let us not deny our country for what it deserves.

Hawiye leaders and intellectuals have tried so hard but failed to "REINVENT" the history of Somalia. Reinvent in the sense of rewriting false history for their clans. The term Reinvention can also implicitly mean that Somalia's history was a made up one or invented by the scions of the Powerful Darod.

if emir nur was merehan then this good cause he was somali and this good for somali history.[/quote]

I like this part of his history.
"Del Wanbara was determined to avenge her husband's death and, nine years later, agreed to marry the Emir of Harar, Nur Ibn Mujahid, son of her first husband's sister, seeing in him the best prospect of achieving her aim. Emir Nur began by rebuilding Harar, which had been sacked, and enclosed the town with a wall which can be seen to this day. Having reorganised his forces, he undertook a new conquest of the Christian highlands and, in 1559, killed Emperor Galawdewos in battle, thus fulfilling Del Wanbara's wish to avenge the death of her first husband. "

He cut off the head of Emperor Galadewos and braught it to Del Wanbara. What a brave woman she was.

It makes no sense that Ahmed gran was marehan, if the so call al jeberti darood started in the northeast and his decendents moved south ward, what were marehan doing in the northwest? If he was Somali, he was more than likel Dir considering that the Dir were moving into harar and area around that time.

Anyways, what does it matter so long as he was Somali.

War anagaa wax aragnay!

I'll make this as simple as possible.

FACT: Axmed Gurey's army were largely made of Mareexaan followed by Gerri Koombe and Harti.

FACT: His nephew was Mareexaan, he married Axmed's widow and succeeded him in leadership.

Unless you're disputing the facts above, which you have a right to do so in which cause you'll be asked to bring forth DOCUMENTS backing up your case. If thats not the case, kindly keep your "he can't be, its not explicitly stated, my aabe told me he wasn't" nonsense to yourself.

Xoogsade

Truth be told, what he was does not concern me and I never said he wasn't marehan, just said it was unlikely. Your first fact about his army being mostly marehan, Harti, Geri is true but their were also Isaaq and Dir in his army. That's 5 different possibilities, why is marehan any more likely than others?

I'd like to believe he was Somali, but the more I think about it, the more likely he was foreign Arab leading Muslim Somali's. Somal's are not known to set aside their difference and come under one man of a different tribe.
But of course this all conjecture on my part.

Anyways seeing the way the marehaan devout so much time into proving this man's marehaanimo, I'm rooting for you guys. Laughing
