BOSSASO, Somalia Sep 26 (Garowe Online) - The national police commander in Somalia, Cabinet ministers and United Nations officers attended the graduation ceremony for a batch of Somali police cadets on Wednesday.
Gen. Abdi Qeybdiid led a 22-member delegation from the capital Mogadishu to the northern region of Puntland. Armo Police Academy, just south of the Puntland port of Bossaso, completed months-long police training for 600 cadets, according to government officials.
The delegation was welcomed to Bossaso by Puntland Vice President Hassan Dahir Afqura and promptly transported south to the Academy. Police cadets marched and saluted the officials and were handed their graduation documents by Gen. Qeybdiid.
It is the third batch of police cadets to graduate from Armo Police Academy in the past two years.
Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi was supposed to lead the federal government delegation to Puntland but declined for unspecified reasons.
Sources close to the prime minister suggested Gedi postponed his trip to Puntland because relations with President Abdullahi Yusuf had not improved, despite yesterday's hours-long meeting between the two officials at Mogadishu's presidential palace Villa Somalia.
