I wouldn't advice it, unless the car listed is in your city and you can go and check it out. I bought a car on autotrader.com last year and I am quite happy with that decision.

Good luck!

I thought the same. I buy small things from eBay and Craiglist all the time but something as big as a car, I don't know. Laughing

Yeah, I bought a CD changer for my car on e-bay a few months ago, the seller was a kid in Texas and didn't rip me off. There are decent people like that, but for the most part, they are scammers.

Check out auctions in your area, preferrably 'Dealer Auctions' by going with someone who has a dealer license, craiglist is good too, the important thing is to make sure the engine is not a lemon! Laughing

Somali2003,

There is a HG dude in Atlanta with a dealer license, he charges $100 for each person he takes with him to a 'Dealer auction' and ends up buying a car there, if the person doesn't buy a car then he charges them $50.

Smart business tactics, walee dadkan meel walba bey lacagta ka sameyni! Laughing

I bought several cars from Ebay and Autotrader. I got scammed two times. Some of the sellers think they can trick most buyers in to selling them cars that are contrary what they put on the page. If you are going to buy a car on ebay, take someone experienced with you who can check it thorougly. One time, this guy sold one to my cousin via ebay, once we went there to pick it up, we found the whole car was nothing but garbage. The guy was assuming that we were bunch of clueless buyers who have never seen a car before.

But there are some good deals and honest buyers man, I bought my latest car from ebay for a very good deal.

edit: btw, this is from an UK Ebay perspective

Laughing Laughing Trust me, there was this HG guy in my town. He was like very old man but he used to live in Italy for a long long time as an emigre. He moved to the United States, applied for Residence and got it. He started then working for a small company, got little cash in his saving, and then he applied for a credit card. Luckly, he received one card with limited offer. The old man would wear the best Tuxedo every day and start hanging out at the Downtown mall. His main goal was to attract Somali couple or any regular person purchasing something from the mall. He would charge his card for whatever these people wanted and get the cash from them. On the same morning, evening after the transaction, he would pay his credit bill. Then, his credit reputation went high. Finally he succeeded winning a Platinum Mastar card with exclusive privileges over $ 100,000. He got away with it finally and moved to Europe. Laughing

Somali2003,

That one is new to me! I am not surprised though, some people have the guts to try their hand at everything, while most people will shy away from some things, they will bring the money by any means neccessary!

Funny story, thanks for the laugh! Laughing

I stopped buying from Ebay after I got ripped off a few too many times. But I've seen others get good deals on laptops and electronics so it all depends I suppose, but a car might be going to far.

I never by anything over $50 on ebay if it aint from my city.....some guy got ripped off in arizona, he was so pissed off, he took his shut-gun, travel to the scammer city and shot him dead, so yh some folks dont play around. Laughing

Comming back to the topic I bought my car at the local auction about a year ago, I dont know about you'll but I cant drive the same girl for more then a year, there's nothing wrong with it, nice rims, cd players, luxury car. So I talked to an arab-dealer few weeks ago. I made a deal: my car plus a few g's for another banging more expensive car.

hopefully things will work out. Smile

Qansa,

Never buy a vehicle on EBay. I would suggest going on Craigslist. I have helped friends pick up cars from Craigslist. I recommend taking it to a mechanic for an inspection and running the VIN through carfax (avoid any with even 1 accident).

Another route is to keep an eye out for foreign students selling their vehicles before leaving the country. Better yet, look for a person who is getting deported, they are forced to sell real cheap Laughing

I bought 2 vehicles from an auction and both are great. One had a bullet hole but I fixed it up for dirt cheap.

Somali2003,

There is nothing wrong with making money. HG may be adept at it but since when was that an insult.

In my family, we have a tradition of teaching young kids about money at an early age.

I was self employed at age 7 when I used to sell candy, pens, papers etc out of my desk. Opened up my bank account at age 9. When I went to college, I graduated to selling term papers, doing homework and tutoring while cutting hair for $5.
