Somaliland Defence Forces in control of Las Anod.
Las Anod(QRN)-The Somaliland Defence Forces have taken control of Las Anod, the provincial capital of Sool region. The Commander of the Somaliland Defence Forces Colonel Ibrahim Aideed Ahmed verified the news whilst being interviewed on the BBC Somali Service. This news has also been reported several news outlets in the region.
Speaking to the BBC Somali Service, Colonel. Ibrahim stated the remnants of the Puntland militia have abandoned their positions in and around Laas Canood. Several independent sources have confirmed the main body of the Puntland troops along with several civilian officials have returned to Garoowe, the seat of the Puntland administration.
Col.Ibrahim has also confirmed that the only forces currently in control of Las Anod are from the Somaliland Defence Forces. Col.Ibrahim described the situation as calm and emphasised that his troops, with the support of the people of Las Anod, strife to keep the area safe and secure.
Colonel Ibrahim also spoke, at length, on the situation in Abeeslay, a locale ten kilometres west of Las Anod. It has been confirmed that the Puntland troops had suffered severe setback in the clashes with the Somaliland Defence Forces. Col.Ibrahim was able to confirm that several officers from the
Puntland militia, including the commanding officers have been taken to Burco for treatment and for custodial processing.
