I have always had an issue with people who claim some Somalis have Portugesse ancestry when there is no evidence to support this theory.
In the 16th century, the Portugesse attempted to set up posts alongside the East African coastline and have succeeded in doing so in Mombasa with the Port Saciid Barqash fort later called Forte Jesus, in Kilwa, Zanzibar & Mozambique, but they were never successful in setting up a long term post in Somalia. Instead, they used to raid coastal cities like Mogadishu, Marka & Baraawe, but never stayed long enough for them to sire any children.
The people of Baraawe (Reer Baraawe) are originally from Oman according to their own claims, reer Xamar are a mixture of different peoples and Somali Arabs are from Yemen.
As for the Somali Bantus, the Mushunguli peoples of southern Somalia i.e. the ones in Jubbooyinka have lived in these regions for centuries and its even possible that they may have been the original inhabitants of the land with their expertise knowledge of their environment and their anamistic religions.
