The war itself we won I give you that, the SNA was well within Ethiopia's territory and we defeated the Xabashis, where we failed is in the diplomacy field, we had virtually no allies and Siyad "assumed" Jimmy Carter was on board thats why he gave the Soviets the cold shoulder, a vital mistake that eventually costs us the war when many Communist nationes either joined or sent military help to aid the defeated Ethiopians
Our Ambassador in Washington was a total failure, and it all comes back to the regime and president who appoints these useless individuals to undeserving high posts

I am afraid that is incorrect sxb. For one you are right about the Jimmy Carter, because that our Ambassador there, the Sacad Caddow, did mislead Siad about that but the Soviets were going to leave regardless. Ethiopia had just had a marxist revolution, had a much larger population base then we had, and socialism in ethiopia was real whereas we only lipsung to it to get support from the Soviets since the Americans support Haile Salassie. Read even Castro's views about us when he visited.
They were going to leave regardless and the choice came down to either we would gladly be their second "b.itch" or we would our honor and dignity intact by showing them the door. Somali pride is above all.
Besides Haile Selasie's sincere socialistic values compared to Siyaad's modified "Scientific socialism" (A refrain to use the Russians), one must also keep in mind that Ethiopia is the second Christian civilization of the world (After Rome). Whats more, there also an Orthodox Christian nation along with Russia. There was no way the West and Russia would allow a Muslim country to colonize a Christian bastion in East Africa no matter what cold war tensions there were between the two countries. We were focked either way.

I have good memories about 21 October. The 1990 celebration I was in 6th grade and my school was selected to attend the festivities, so we spent the whole day standing in the sun, but it was so much fun and was all worth it.
We have gone back in time a long way since then, I visited Tarabuunka in 2006 and it looked like a desolate place with none of the glamour it once held.
