Agreed w/Cabdallah.
Until we get oil, we shouldn't act, talk, or dress like them. When the time comes, and the oil gets drilled, we'll act like the northern Sudanese.

only a healthy child can learn. somali kids suffer malnutrition lack of food and medicine and 90% will never make to a classroom. as usual, you guys put the cart before the horse. feed-house-treat-clothe them. send them money. when they have a functioning educational and other instutions then discuss this issue.
no one here posts in somali, why? if you can't post in your mother tongue why cry for arabic? do you think is it easier than somali?
Bear in mind, most Somalis learn the Qur'an, meaning they can read Arabic. Also, the Latin script can be confusing. For example, when reading, there's no way a reader would read certain letters correctly. Like the letters "d" in "dadaal"; two totally different letters in the Somali alphabet. Some letters such as "z" doesn't exist in the Somali alphabet. These are a few of many examples. And before the introduction of the Latin script, many Somalis used to write their language in Arabic.
What does reading the Koran have to do with the Somali language? Actually the Latin script we use is easy and straightforward. Z is not in Somali script because there is no Z in Somali, no Somali word starts with Z. There is no two D but D as in Dal and Dh as in Dhimo.
No want can change the Latin scrip to Arabic it’s have been decided long time ago because Latin script suits the Somali language than Arabic script.

"Is Arabic Script More Suitable Than Latin?"
Yes, absolutely! Using the Latin alphabet is pushing it, even though we have managed to pull it off without much difficulty.

Pushing it what exactly? You think your ancestors invented the Arab script for you to use? I don't think so. There are both something we borrowed. The Latin script we use suits us better and that's why it was chosen. Thank god for that too.

Look, Arabic and Somali languages are from the same family language; Afro-Asiatic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro-Asiatic_languagesWhy adopt the script of a totally different language (Indo-European), the script and language of the enemy of the Ummah? The Latin script/language lacks certain letters that are found in both Arabic and Somali languages; such as the letter "x" (as in Xaliimo) and "dh" (as in dhiig).
Someone claimed there's no Somali word that starts with the letter "z." Here are a few words:
zab, zako & zeytuun.
