Is Arabic Script More Suitable Than Latin?

Bear in mind, most Somalis learn the Qur'an, meaning they can read Arabic. Also, the Latin script can be confusing. For example, when reading, there's no way a reader would read certain letters correctly. Like the letters "d" in "dadaal"; two totally different letters in the Somali alphabet. Some letters such as "z" doesn't exist in the Somali alphabet. These are a few of many examples. And before the introduction of the Latin script, many Somalis used to write their language in Arabic.

I doubt enough people would agree on that script; they would claim a certain qabiil invented it, therefore, rivals of that qabiil wouldn't agree to adopt it. Arabic is at least the script of the Qur'an.

So, according to your reasoning, because Somalis adopted the Latin script, they have turned into Latins or Westerners?

Since we are Muslims and the Arabic and Somali languages are close to each other in pronunciation, I would say that the Arabic script is the most suitable script for the Somali language.

I prefer the Arabic script over Latin and Osmaniya, but the Latin script's convenience is going to be a barrier for a future adoption of the Arabic script for our language.

The Turks banned Arabic words in the Turkish vocabulary and replaced it with abandoned Turkish words and made up some words if they couldn't find the old on.

Embracing Arabic is a virtue and for that sheer reason, it shouldn't be so hard to decide which script is best suitable for the Somali language ideally.

Well in that sense than Arabic Script should be used by those who want to use it and others like me who dont wanna use it be free to choose, just like in canada there are two official languages. Somalians who usually run to the Arabs like Arabmen just want to shuff Arabic costums and ways of life and their language onto us. We are not Arabs but somalians, we have our own ways and need to preserve it.

Cali_Gaab: Be specific why do u hate the turks and dont tell me ur an Arab cause its them that hate the Arabs and for ur info Turkey alone could conquer all the Arabs combined today and that just shows why Arabs are jealous of the Mighty Turks who ruled them. Cool

Awdal...i grew up with the lost bunch.....they go to friday prayer and stop at the local liquor store where there sister, wife or mother serves them.
Eid day they have a family celebration at their houses where the grandmother brings along wine and only one of the many family member will put down the wine, pray and come back to it Shocked
May i add that they dislike black people more so than the arabs so i wouldnt be sticking up for them if i were you.....they had the audacity to ask me how i could be muslim if i was black i could give you a hundred more examples why i think they're worse than the shia's and ahmadiyya's.

Cali you were dealing with ignorant people and they come in all colours, shapes and forms.

Turks are friendly and peaceful people. They go overboard with the nationalism and their "our people first" mentality doesn't make them popular, but in my experience they can make good friends you can count on.
