I was having a chat with my ayeeyo the other day and as usual she was telling me to put on weight because being of normal weight for your height is not attractive according to her. I have told her countless times before that now its the other way around being fat is ugly but this is something she just can't comprehend So we got onto the topic of whats beautiful in a woman and I found that most of what she thinks is attractive is considered ugly to somalis nowadays. For example I forget the name in somali but the rolls of fat around the neck (that look like someone has tied a string tightly around the neck) is the height of beauty in her view. I think this is just ugly Also on the list were dark lips Fat ankles Mariin colour skin and long nose.
I wonder what brought about such a turnaround in a such a short space of time, could it be that we have all been subconciously influenced by the western standard of beauty .? Light skinned, slim and more western looking is considered beautiful now.

No fat woman for me. Fat women are lazy, unattractive, and tend to be mentally impaired.

I heard dark gums are supposed to be reaal ugly in Somali culture and having a fanax is supposed to be beautiful. Weird, I know.

Cultural clash I guess. Some somalis put corn oil on their faces b4 heading out...I guess they see that as a sign of beauty.

Obesity is NOT attractive. Thick in all the right places, sure. But straight up fat/obese is unattractive. AND unhealthy.

As for "Light skinned, slim and more western looking is considered beautiful now", I disagree. Skin complexion is irrelevant, as long as it's smooth, clear and blemish free. Weight is also a nonissue, as long as it's height/weight proportionate. And "Western looking" ? nah, don't buy it. Nothing wrong with religous/cultural garb, as long as it's in reason. i.e No ninja outfits.

I think cududa kuus is not one of the list...

This is no surprise. It’s not uncommon for people’s beauty ideals to change after coming into close contact with another culture. In America western culture is dominating so it’s no surprise that Somalis living here would want to live up to it.
