GAROWE, Somalia Oct 28 (Garowe Online) - Families across several towns and villages in Somalia's northern Nugal region have fled their homes in recent weeks due to shortage of food and water.
Aid officials told Garowe Online the families have fled to neighboring towns and regions. Some towns in Nugal have been completely evacuated, residents said.
The expected autumn rains did not come, and now aid officials are warning that there is an unfolding humanitarian emergency if the rains do not come in the next two weeks.
Local aid groups have appealed to international humanitarian agencies to help families displaced by the drought.
Some of the wells in the region no longer function and the motors are in dire need of repairs, officials said.
