Lug, no need to defend SNF, you don't see me defending USC do you? Truth needs to be told, as I many times denounced the USC as nothing more than a paper-movement.
Having said that,
Lets not distort history. The infamous 4 months war is written down in history. Mudulood has not lost one inch of territory, Kaaran, Yaaqshid, Medina, Shangaani, Shibis etc are all still mainly inhabited by Mudulood. During the whole 4 months, no inch was lost. Thus succesfully been the first group to stop the war-machine of Aideed. Ofcourse, thousands of people died as was the pattern in 90s. A black era in Somali history.
''Various attempts to mediate the conflict between the two men failed, and on November 17, 1991, General Aideed's forces launched a large-scale attack on Ali Mahdi's forces, who occupied the northern part of Mogadishu. The capital soon became the scene of widespread and flagrant abuses, as both sides used artillery and anti-tank missiles, as well as automatic weapons, indiscriminately. Africa Watch estimates that in Mogadishu alone, 14,000 people were killed and 27,000 wounded between November 17, 1991, and February 29, 1992''
http://www.hrw.org/reports/1993/somalia/''Since the violence of this last bout of fighting had considerably weakened the USC, that is the various segments of the Hawiye clan, the pro-Siad Barre SNF forces in the south took heart. After acquiring new weaponry from South Africa through Kenya[30]30, the forces of the former régime under the command of General Mohamed Said Hersi 'Morgan' launched a big attack northwards in March 1992. By April, they had reached the capital, forcing 'President' Ali Mahdi and General Aydeed to become reconciled, at least temporarily, in order to face this renewed threat. The pro-Siad Barre forces were defeated and forced southwards, with General Aydeed in hot pursuit. The fleeing SNF troops were chased all the way back to the Kenyan border and the two struggling armies looted once more the inter-riverine area, causing a new exodus of refugees.''
http://www.unhcr.org/cgi-bin/texis/vtx/ ... &page=publThis ofcourse led to Aideeds group occupying Gedo region, and proclaiming SNA faction in Baardheere.
''With the assistance of the Kenyan military (in violation of a United Nations Security Council arms embargo), the SNF retook the Gedo region. In October 1992, the SNF captured the town of Bardera''

That was the infamous Somali civil war during the 91s. Those two organizations have written extensively about that infamous period.
Lets read it properly, and learn from the mistakes made. Instead of distorting history and not learning from it.
May allah have mercy on all the Somalis that died during those turbulent years.
This is my last post in this topic, which is getting out of control and is beginning to turn into a silly squabble, while overlooking the terrible consequences of the civil war.
