WHAT ATTRACTED THESE TWO TOGETHER?

Postby King-of-Awdal » Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:39 pm

First of all need i say that i will not tolerate one single insult of any clan in this thread. Cool Now lets get to my question am still baffled as to how the hell did this unholy alliance between MJ and Abgaal started. Looking at maps it shows they really dont share any border closest being some Abgaal settlements in Galgaduud am assuming, They seem to have never fought each other which is understandable since they dont live around each other. So my question is whats the history behind this alliance. Again i dont need ur answer to be both hate HG cause that i already know but it also seems to me that Marexaan and HG tend to back each other too. so whats the story about all this. Looking forward to a smart discussion without insults. Very Happy

Well it is really easy KA. There are two main reasons and you already answered one which is that Abgaal and Majeerteen interests are not perpendicular. For the most part, Somalis always fight for resources and the main rivals of that are neighboring groups. Abgaal and Majerten have never neighbored each other so do not have conflicting interests and neither did they fight each other as clans so none of the honorary revenge cycle which prevents peace exists between them.

Another reason is Majeerteen considers Mareexaan their biggest contender in Darood and Abgaal consider Habar Gidir their biggest contender in Hawiye so by allying with each other, it is a marriage of convience, at least until the interests are parallel. It is similar to the Mareexaan and Habar Gidir alliance of Abdiqasim's Carta government.

Voltage

Thanx for the input though it seems that even if u fought each other and share a border u can still have an alliance just look at the alliance between samaroon and habar awal though i dont wanna steer the topic. But it seems this isnt the first time these two have sided with each other. During the SYL years it is also said they use to back each other up even going as far as the first somali president choosing MJ as his pm. looks to me that this alliance has been around for a long time. Confused
