Well it is really easy KA. There are two main reasons and you already answered one which is that Abgaal and Majeerteen interests are not perpendicular. For the most part, Somalis always fight for resources and the main rivals of that are neighboring groups. Abgaal and Majerten have never neighbored each other so do not have conflicting interests and neither did they fight each other as clans so none of the honorary revenge cycle which prevents peace exists between them.
Another reason is Majeerteen considers Mareexaan their biggest contender in Darood and Abgaal consider Habar Gidir their biggest contender in Hawiye so by allying with each other, it is a marriage of convience, at least until the interests are parallel. It is similar to the Mareexaan and Habar Gidir alliance of Abdiqasim's Carta government.
