Baller,
I don't know how anybody can live in DC nowadays. The only people that live there in large numbers are those AU, GW, GT etc. students who live on campus, and the fagz who took over the whole Dupont circle area, and are even taking over Northwest. Most people either moved to MD, or Northern VA, which I think is the best bet anyway. I live in Northern VA and take the metro to DC basically and it only takes me 20 min. Are your Parents renting or do they own it? If they own it, they might want to get rid of it and cash out with the ballpark and all the other stuff going on for maximum profit. If there renting who knows they probably just really like the city, lool.
Luq,
Its people that have money that can live in the more prestigious parts of DC. Its always been expensive to live there. The cost of living has always been high even though you and I know there are some really rotten parts. The city has undergone alot of redevelopment over the last 10 years or so. I don't live there now but I visit my parents fairly often.
My parents own their home, but I doubt they will cash out. They're retired and have been living in DC for like an eternity.
One of my brothers live in PG County, Maryland and that area has also gone under redevelopment over the last 8 years. The key was to buy a home in the early to mid 90's which he did before today's soaring housing costs. He bought 3 homes.
The thing wit DC is the quality of life is rich and so is the standard of living if you can afford it. I don't blame you for living in VA. The cost of living will be cheaper. Everything in DC is inflated. But believe me....give it another decade and you will see places like Silversprings, Forestville, Landover, Bowie, Bladensburg, Laurel, with very high soaring housing costs. That is due again to its proximity and closeness to DC.
The only thing I love about DC is the Metro.
If you ever get tired of VA, lemme know. I'll advise you on where you can buy a decent house in GHA(Greater Houston area) for just under 100K
