Whats the difference between a protectorate and a colony?

Postby LiquidHYDROGEN » Mon Jan 07, 2008 6:31 am

I always thought that a colony was where the coloniser gets a hands on approach into the economy , politics and culture of the colonised with evident and lasting consequences and legacy. and that a protectorate was a "you scratch my back and i'll scratch yours" kind of situation, because i look at somaliland now and i see no evidence of british presence (other than the english language, but english has become a universal language). but with somalia ( before the this catastrophe) and djibouti they have/had evident influences from abroad.

protectorate = easily submassive, basically suking the colonizers d!ck

Colony = resisting the colonizer by all means necessary

A protectorate is a different state that is under your hegomony, influence and protection, and you have allot of control over the affairs, while the local have some self government.

A colony is your own property, like your house or farm.

The Italians saw Somalia and Eritrea like part of Italy, they planned to plant the excess Italian population over there, basically ship as many poor southern italian peasants into the colonies to build a new italy.

Fortunatley World War 2 got int the way of the plan, and only 30,000 Settlers made it to Somalia, and 50,000 settlers mad it to Eritrea, while the original plan was to ship in a million each .
