Somali Gangs

Postby snowflakes821 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:06 pm

Why do Somali youths join gangs? Please help me because I want to understand why someone who came here as a refugee, is a muslim and is black, would want to join a gang? Do these young men ever grow out of this " gangster wannabe" phase?

No life nothin to do. School wasn't workin out, got no job, nuttin to do at home.

The younger kids I swear are idiots, they aren't even friends, they steal from each other, fight each other, talk shit about each other, but still hang out because if they didn't they wouldn't have anyone else to hang out with.

See what not havin a life does.

How do we help these boys out? I am sick and tired of hearing complaints and nobody doing anything about it. Let's start taking some action.

The sad part is a lot of parents don't even know what there kids are up to. The parents need to be aware and give something for the kids to do so they don't get caught up in gang activities.

I am so tempted to just knock on every Somali parents' door and ask them where their sons are? I want to talk to every single gang member and ask them why they're throwing their lives away? We have no country to go back to. Why are you wasting every opportunity here so that you can become a 50 cent wannabe.

these are all typical answers from people that have never been affiliated with gangs or participated in that lifetysle, the truth is that there really is no specific reasoning in why teenagers join gangs, it just happens, every teenager wants something different, something exciting and rebellion, something that isn't boring, it's the thrill of it. it just happens, fock what you heard.

How do we put a stop to Somalis joining gangs? We can't just say " boys will be boys" and hope they grow out of it.

most of these kids come from dysfunctional families, father is often seen at coffee shops busy with fadhi ku diri, mother is at her neighbors gossiping, sisters are out partying, there is no "family" just roomates, plus the think of ways to lower the divorce rate. some of these kids have single mothers, she can't handle a teenage kid all alone, bring back the traditional family values and you might save them from being in gangs.
