200 Somali soldiers desert amid clashes

More than 200 Somali soldiers have deserted amid an ongoing conflict between Puntland and Somaliland.

Taking their weapons with themselves, the troops who are from the clan of the country's president have left Mogadishu and are heading towards Puntland, a Press TV correspondent reported on Tuesday.

These soldiers are from Puntland and they have left the army to defend their region amid an ongoing conflict between Puntland and Somaliland, said Army Colonel Ahmed Haruun Keyse.

Meanwhile, an army officer was gunned down Tuesday morning in Garbaharey town, the Gedo region.

Local police has arrested the killer and he is now in jail.
