8 Ethiopian soldiers killed in Afgoye overnight attack......

Postby Adan*5 » Sun Jan 27, 2008 4:04 pm

Sunday, January 27, 2008

At least eight Ethiopian soldiers have been killed when insurgents attacked an Ethiopian military base in Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The rebels secretly entered the base in Afgoye region, 30 km to Mogadishu, Saturday night and opened fire on Ethiopian guards, Press TV correspondent reported.

The Ethiopian soldiers retaliated against the rebels forcing them to leave.

Meantime, the Somali prime minister released the elders of Hawiye clan who were detained by Ethiopian soldiers a few months ago.

Somalia's interim government and its Ethiopian military backers have struggled an insurgency, which has killed thousands and displaced more than half of Mogadishu's civilian population since the beginning of 2007.
