I watched an interview with former somaliland president cigaal he claimed the word SOMALIA is from the Italian syntax, which makes sense since English speaking Countries call them Italy and they call themselves Italia their airline is Alitalia, and even their accent Mama Mia! lots of ia's lol. This got me wondering how can anyone criticize somaliland for having a colonial name? If the word Somalia is of Italian origin?

Croatia (land of the croats)
Ethiopia (land of burnt skin)

I've heard the same thing and I think it's true. Somalia is a colonial name.

the word Somali itself is English word , most pre-colonial somalis regarded themselves as SOMAL and not Somalis

Ok, I think we can safely say now that no-one should ever criticize SOMALILAND for having ingriis colonial name since SOMALIA is af Talyaani, a Roman Latin word.
