In November 2006, while the TFG was besieged by Islamist armies in Baidoa and Ethiopia was preparing to invade the Union of Islamic Courts, President Yusuf traveled to the headquarters of the PRC's state-owned China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) as well as the smaller China International Oil and Gas (CIOG) Group to ratify a deal with the oil group's chairman and chief executive officer, Fu Chengyu.

Seven months later, in Nairobi, TFG Energy Minister Abdullahi Yusuf Mohamad met with Chen Zhuobiao, head of CNOOC operations in Africa, and Judah Jay, managing director of CIOG, to create the final agreement, which was signed by President Abdullahi Yusuf on July 18th 2007. The agreement gave CNOOC exclusive rights to the large offshore blocks off the coast of Mudug, for an undisclosed sum of money and unknown terms.

Gedi wanted to resell the rights himself, he was a greedy focker too, and he had friends in the Kuwait National Oil Company and PT Medco of Indonesia.

The rewards are worth it to them though, a million here or there to the CNOOC or PT Medco is nothing, while expanding oil exploration in Africa is a huge coup for them, even if 9 times out of 10 their money goes nowhere and they end up with nothing.

I mean look at Chad today, lots of parallels there, but oil companies struck big there.

I know that $1million is chump change to them.

The only companies that will drill in Somalia are ones licensed by a government of national unity accepted by all Somalis.

Dunno, it looks as though Range Resources/African Oil Corp has managed to start drilling in Puntland successfully, though they were kicked out of Sool and Sanaag, where more than half of their blocks are.

It raises some valid points. But what you have to keep in mind is that the article was writtenn long before Ghedi and AY broke up. Of course that doesn't mean that his assertions are null, but even though Ghedi and Ay's fall out had economic underpinning, the true motive behind the exit of Ghedi was the political divergence that ensued as both men's interest become increasingly divergent. As the relationship between the two men worsen, America and other Wstern donor nations were forced to intervene paving the way for Ghedi's exit in order to hold together the fragile TFG. It is important to point out that the gentleman who wrote the article you have posted has a well-established record of distorting facts to fit his perverted and delusional fantasies into everything he touches! Take this claim for example he makes:

They let you have 51% of the contract whereas the west had never allowed this type of contract in most parts of Africa, barring few countries in the Middle east. It reflects China's non-intervention foreign policy and egalitarian principles.
