Since it is Black History month, I want to thank African American's for making life easier in the USA on me and thousands of my fellow country mates.

Without your struggles against slavery, Jim Crow and your ever vigilance against discrimination, we would not be where we are in the US.

The blacks alone couldn't have made it unless they had whites actually fighting for their imancipation. The black man's words and actions were irrelevant and held no water unless backed by the supporting whites, so basically, you should be grateful to the whites twice. Once for freeing Ilmo Kunta Kinte and again, allowing you to become a refugee in America.

i guess thats the problem-- yes the 50s whites were horrible--but lets move on! Follow the words of martin luther king--judge not the color of skin but the content of character. Now todays whites character is kind and generous, they allowed u into their country while the arab call u 'Abiid" and deport u! The blacks in the 50s were excellent abiids who were eloquent and educated. todays blacks r ignorant and bitter. I would say ..i like the blacks of the 50s and hate the blacks of today. Some whites did help out but if blacks did not shed their blood, get imprisoned or killed who would have recognized their rights.

The Civil Rights were fought for by blacks who brought it to the attention of the world. Without their struggle, we would be in a sorry state here.

It was black men men and women and yes, even little black children getting beat, hosed, and even torn to pieces by dogs to get their freedom. Not whites.

And please tell me you arenot so gullible to believe whites fought for the freedom of blacks because they though it was the right thing?

Some whites in the south didn't like slavery because it took land and jobs away from other whites.

White women sure as hell didn't like slavery because they were tired of their husbands and sons raping little slave girls instead of have sex with them.

The white north was against it because by the time the mid 1800s came around they had what they needed from th south already and felt it was time to fix the americans rep with the rest of the world.

That whole thing about Northern whites feeling bad about slavery because they were Christain is pure BS. They owned slaves too and both the north and the south used the bible to justify slavery in the first place.

I have been glued to the History Channel & PBS. They have some wonderful documentaries on the lives of African Americans. I knew some history but found out some new facts.

We, Somalis, an indebted to your people for their struggle against slavery, and discrimination.
