Depends on the level of experience you have and educational background for ex.

having CGA CCA in Accounting plus 7 year experience your salary can be up to 70,000-85,000
having CFP plus 8 years in Finance and some Mutual fund Licence and Insurance Licsence can give you up to 80,000 to 97,0000.

Marking can very depending on which field you're working in (ex. Marketing Finance, Marketing Advertisement, Marketing Commerce etc.) starting wage usually goes from 65,0000k plus comission and bonuses.

You can always switch.

I also recently applied and got accepted, but I applied for the wrong field -- Computer Science.

I changed it last week to Electrical Engineering.

So long as you are taking similar fields (finance/marketing), you can make your real decision at a much later time since the courses will be similar in the early years; math, intro classes, so forth.

Then again, Cosmetology and Culinary Arts are still great starting paths.

Finance is a hard subject. It is all based on Math . Every finance subject is math-related one. So be prepared for a rigorous study.
Accounting is dying nowadays due to Accounting softwares that can do the task faster than a PHD-holding one. The decision makers are Financiers, and Finance is in much higher demands than any field. You learn how to be rich or make your country or company very rich.

Surprisingly, most Somalis have no interest for this field. I have yet to see many people pursuing this career.

Time to see how the world works.

"Accounting is typical and boring. Majority are immigrant who work in that field and yes it's easier to get a job, but is it a job your'e looking for or a CAREER....."

I totally disagree with this statement. Accounting being boring is a myth and any one in this proffesion will tell you. You develop attention to details and nothing more exciting than explain simple financial terms to non financial individual some of them at top levels.

I am suprised that you did an MBA and work for a mutual fund (Financial) and come up with this comment. marketing is way too superficial and you end up spending all day with bullshiters who think they know it all.

Finance/ Accounting proffessionals ultimately end up with CEO positions as compared to marketing people. Yes it is a career that will pay off ultimately. Not easy to start with but once you develop the results are great!

Sorry but you are wrong.

Finance its not based on maths just cause u see some figures in the text books, Its all about interprating and understand financial information and concepts and use that to make decisions.

Accountants job is not to do the calculations and computations, Its the softwares job, Accounting is broad and a growing field. softwares dont produce reports or advice, they dont manipulate financial statements, they dont make decisions ,they dont inform managers, deal with tax authorities, they dont do audit

^^
Funny how people make a judgement about something they know so little about. How can software work without the intervention of individuals who have the expertise to interpret what is needed or what the results mean. Plus accountacy is about everything to do with business from financial management, tax, law , corporate gorvance and alot more. And you end up working across the board.

Also every single organization needs a finance person that cant be said with marketing!

Go for Marketing and maybe Finance minor. It will definitely give you that creative edge even if you decide to pursue finance later on.

And yes accounting is a dying field. Even entry level analysts earn more than mid-level accountants. With five years experience and a charter from cfa institute you should earn in par top tier mba grads (median compensation of $180k).

I donot know much of Marketing other than the cliche that most marketers are often creative which will come in handy formulating financial instruments. Also, if you decide on finance, it doesn't mean your career cannot veer of finance. You can always pursue an MBA Program which is likely to provide exposure across numerous fields of study that can be applied in almost any position, whether in finance or not.

Step back and assess your commitment to either fields and good luck mate.

accounting/finance is definitely not about serious math..it only involves basic skills in adition..multiplications..subtraktion and division...lakin what matters most in accounting/finance is your good analysis...thats where the answer lies.. it all depends how good you are at analysis.. if you are fairly good in it..then you can land to accounting :)
