'a black kafir from Abyssinia with a stern Roman face'
Based on this description he was definitely an amhaari xabaashi. What is interesting is-- how can a xabaashi be this brave?? Xabaashis are not known for bravery! He could have very well be a somali-- ogadenia to be presice.Besides xabaashis are very light skin mostly-- somalis are the dark ones with caucasian features- which could be a roman face too.
And the most interesting thing is-- he lived in the era of Queen Elizabeth I of England-- The Virgin Bastard Queen! looooool

it most likely that he was a shoan / amhara highlander and christian and his family probably captured as slaves during the wars.
he is not oromo becuase the oromo migrations happened in the 1560's when they moved into and surrounded harar.

In India there is a State that has Somali owned villages with history of 200 years plus. They are mostly Isaaq and are proud Somalis. They were brought by the British to serve as "Askaris" to protect the local Raj

Cabdulah, you are either Hawiye or midgihii ku dhex noolaa Majeerteenka.
"he was ethnically Habesha (by the stricter definitions), as supported by the Dutch merchant Pieter van den Broecke's description of him, "a black kafir from Abyssinia with a stern Roman face."[3]
It says in the readings, gurey? The Dutch merchant who lived at that time writes his ethnicity.
kafir is Arabic and it means "infidel". Those who sold him were Arabs.

Arabs were big time slave traders. They enslaved whites on the shores of Africa and any other ethnicity or race of non-Muslims. Terms like Kafir, Fonta (bad) were used by the Arabs to describe their slaves.
