Can a common enemy make nations best friends?

assalam alaikum brothers and sisters, I'm half Eritrean and Egyption and every time I meet Somalis and tell them I am Eritrean, they show me love and vise-versa, my Eritrean friends buy Somalis free meals all the time for simply being Somali. My question is, can a common enemy (Ethiopia) make people close friends? How true is this?

there is too much cuqdad and pride amongst somalis. even a war on Islam isn't enough to unite them under one flag.

Somalis seem to have lost trust in their fellow brothers. You bring a good point but then again, if someone you've been fighting for decade comes up to you and says he's changed and believes in Islam and he needs you to join him in a war, you wouldn't jump the gun neither. You would look out for yourself (clan) first, since they were the only ones on your team.

This is false for the most part, i blieve Somalis in large part belong to the same ethnic group but seeing the flag you represent as your avatar, i can tell this is probably a put down towards somalis.

Towards the title question i would say yes.

Somalia and Eritrea have the same interest regarding Ethiopia, we are both small nations who happen to be around a large, aggressive and ever expanding neighbour.

One that cares little about providing good health service for he's own people and one that is only interested in war and expansion.

scapegoat from?

I think all humans in general look out for their interest, it's human nature but do you think real friendship can come about from a common enemy?

Actually, I am Tigre, not to be confused with the Tigrinya tribe of Eritrea. In Eritrea, the Bejas are called Hedareb. For some reason, the Bejas in Egypt think they're Arabs.

E&E,

Right now Somalia is divided among UIC and TFG supporters, and it seems your with the wrong crowd, those fighting the TFG. You wana fight Ethiopians fight them in your own borders no point looking toward a broken country that could hardly help it self stand on its own two feet. Somalia is trying to establish a government and your country is just making it harder for us to do that while it is looking toward Somalia for support; you wana fight the Ethiopian lets not make Somalia another battle field since it seems this is what the Eritreans are trying to do by helping the UIC.

Who elected the TFG? Not the Somalis, that's sure thing. The same people funding the war lords (US and ETHIOPIA), are the same sponcers of the TFG. The ICU did bring peace to Southern Somalia, even if it was for 6 months.

Seeing the history between Somalia and Ethiopia, it's not the Eritreans who've sent their sons daughters to Somalia, it's your neighbors you've been fighting since the 1300s. War between Ethiopia and Somalia is not new but what is new are SOME somalis supporting an invasion of their country.
