If you know amharic language, here is the latest Ethiopian parliament debate on somalia and other issues. Some opposition parties ask Meles to change policies.

 around 17 million people in this region speak amharic as SECOND language so i was expected some somalis in this website to know amharic too.

anyway, i will help you translate.

about somalia, the ethiopian opposition parties said the TFG is failing and they asked meles what is his "exit strategy"??

meles zenawi said his army has destroyed the heavy armed militias in somalia, like ICU. so he said there is no threat on ethiopia anymore because all ICU militias are now using small scale weaponry and working underground. He also said the arms movement from eritrean and pro-ICU arab groups to the alshabab is weak and disconnected. So he said the first part of his goal is successful.

But he said the second part of his goal is unsuccessful because TFG is not strong and there is no peace in mogadishu and surrounding areas. he said most parts of somalia are peaceful under regional authorities, pro-TFG militias and pro-TFG clans. But he said the central and southern parts of somalia are still facing ICU/alshabab attacks. so he admitted that his troops are sacrificing a lot for the sake of TFG and for sake of peace in somalia. But he said his troops are "not overwhelmed" and they are still progressing in training TFG troops. He said, if things get out of hand, his troops can withdraw anytime because they accomplished the 1st part of his plan. But in general, he said the second part of his plan to bring peace and to help TFG can still be successful so he will keep his troops in somalia until that plan is completed.

About ONLF, he said most of ONLF rebels are either killed or many surrendered. But he said some ONLF rebels are still in the borders but they don't have enough power to kill civilians anymore. He said congradulations to Somalis in Ethiopia who are working with ethiopian army to attack ONLF. He said the new focus of his government is to work with other governments to find and arrest ONLF leadership and military heads living outside of ethiopia.

Then Meles said that Eritrea has been training ONLF fighters in Eritrean port of ASSAB the last few months. He said his intellegence agency is looking at the eritrean movement and analyzing the threat.
