Dereast Ismahan,
You should use the language that you feel most comfortable with.
Slowly start to work with the other one, reading is the key. During your reading you can recognise
and remember, try to understand the meaning of the words and engage your self.
Frankly speaking for 4 years ago I could not, read, write and speak Somali. I was always afraid
to express my self in Somali though I knew a lot I never used it. Everybody used to make fun of me
family, friends, neighbours you name it. I was very depressed about it and 1 day I just
broke down and cried my heart out, after a fight with my brother and the way he made fun of my Somali.
The only people who encouraged me were my parents. And I remember my mom telling me
if you want from the heart you can do it & then asked me do you want to overcome your fear?
I said: YES PLEASE! I then got pen & paper and never looked back.
I was surprised how easy it was to write down somali, because you simply write the way you speak.
Within 3 weeks I was writing a perfect Somali! But speaking was problem, slowly I became super.
I thank so much to my parents, because I'm blessed with highly educated parents.
Ajar iyo xasanaad badan Allaha siiyo! Today I'm very good in both sides.
Af-soomaali ha jiree ha joogo, Soomaaliyana ha noolaato!
Macasalaama.
