Or how about we work towards something we can actually celebrate? Remembering the past is nice but we're kinda overlooking the real issues here, I honestly would not support anyone to celebrate this, its as if you guys are trying to escape the reality of things.

This isn't about escaping reality, people know what is going on in Somalia right now and the last 20 years...its all the same bullshid but with a different toilet (Somalis killing Somalis, Ethios killing Somalis, Somalis allying with so and so to kill other Somalis). Read the article, the author even mentions this issue.

Sure we have to work towards something, but these are important dates in Somali history and they should not be forgotten. If people want to celebrate, thats cool...if they wanna remember thats great...they have every reason to.

I don't know "names", people have their own things and multitudes of doing it.

I would call the day Malintii Isbahaysiga, and I would celebrate it come Hell or high water.

It may be that there is nothing good to celibrate; that is not the point. The point is that that day marks the beginning of Somali independence from the colonial powers and the hope of the union of the Somali people in strength and self-determination. If anything, it needs to be elaborated in the diaspora.

Not celebrating it is like giving up.
