Why most somalis cant be an individual.?

Postby Keyse_0208 » Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:39 pm

1 thing thats not great about somalida, is that non of them are individual, somehow they always come in a group or packs, whether its their views, or just in general. And the one who has his own views is considered as an outsider.
Why is there a need 4 this, is it a confidence thing or what.?

Keyse, It is a porblem that plagues somalis. You have a point. Their brightest is beholden to the clan and thinks in the collective.

Fah, Those are rare to find. And the ones you see have no functional relationship with their clan elders. They are outcasts and belittled in clan meetings for being useless and out of tune with the clan.

What good is individualism, and how is it better than collectivism?

Both words put in relative perspective can have positive and negative meanings. In Keyse's proposition, Individualism is better than collectivism. You must decide what is good and bad, right or wrong, suggst or have your own views and etc without towing someone or some group's line. Be the person you are supposed to be, that is what he is saying.

It's something I've always wondered myself too. Most somalis tend to share the same opinions as their kinsmen, not actually realising that they have no real opinion themselves.

Interesting question Keyse. Well, i can surmise it has something to do with 'reer baadiyeniimo' as Fah explained above and also there is the genetic predisposition. Somalis are Cushites or normads for that matter, their recent DNA was programed to go in groups as their herds of camel and goats were, they tend to stick together so that the predators like the lions dont eat their sheeps. In the western standard the predator is anyone with anti somali values or Cadaans or somali Cadaans wanna bes.Basically, it will take a couple of dacades for the Nomad DNA make up to diminish and form NEW DNA make up where there will be selfish individualised secular slash secret atheists like Fah! :D

Judging by some individuals, it does not look like it will take that long. It appears you have too much confidence in the Somali peoples ability to maintain their culture in their new host countries.

Qansa

As u usual- your hyphaneted pride over somalinism has blinded you from my point. I do not have too much confidence over the somali to maintain their culture, can't u see my point is for them -to loose it? If culture advices groups and not thinking individually- then this culture needs to be irradicated. It is this 'group culture' thing that gave birth to qabilism. It encouraged a group thinking as opposed to individual. It seems the more someone is a reer baadiye, the more that someone thinkings in group wise. Modernism welcomes individualism. It is that sense of a developed brain, that has been 'Enlightened' ( I hate to use to this atheist word).

Anyway, Qansa---i suggest u do something about your over-flated pride in somaliniimo. Its like u think yourself as Jesus Marexaan for somalis, r u going to save them?

I read what you wrote above several times trying to figure out the point you were making basra. It appears as if you believe that group thinking is bad but you do not give any valid reasons why it is bad other than your claim that it gave birth to qabiilism which is not even proven with certainty. Basra I do not have over-flated pride in somalinimo actually. I am just proud to be what I am and it is not something I can change. LOL@jesus marexaan. Someone can have their own views on many things but still share the same views with others and there is nothing wrong with that. I would not really consider that group thinking.

Basra, I will always be a Muslim, so quit calling people atheists.

As long as Somalis stay Muslims, thats all that matters.

Interesting discussion. Coincidentally, i'm having the same discussion with this girl I know. I posit that to really progress in the West, young Somali's need to start thinking and acting (responsibly and maturely, of course) for themselves, and quit worrying about what some busybodied, loud mouthed aunt has to say, or what people will say behind your back at the next aroos.
