I'm not an administrator on Wikipedia, nor did I invent either of the flags of Maakhir, though I did clean up the rather rough version I was sent after the declaration ceremony.

Somalis are always arguing over the validity of the various administrations that often overlap (TFG, UIC, Puntland, Somaliland, Maakhir, Galmudug, Northland, Southwestern Somalia, Jubaland, etc etc etc) or if they even exist or not. I try my best to seperate fact from fiction, but there is always some other version of reality. I again try my best to rationalize them all.

I did not invent Maakhir, though lately I think the idea has been somewhat abandoned while that Warsangeli guy runs for office in Puntland, and I think it may be dropped entirely if he wins. It was always something of a label for the Warsangeli clan, but who am I to dispute the validity of someone else's administration?

I don't really know what James Dahl is but he cracks me up , seemingly always pissing off one segment or the other of the pop here .

Northland State was declared May 1st 2008, and many of the details have yet to be worked out.

The autonomous sub-states take a long time to get off the ground after they are declared. Galmudug is making strides now, but that's after almost 2 years. Puntland was declared in 1998 but didn't take control of all of its declared territory until 2003. Southwestern Somalia never got anywhere at all. Maakhir will either fail or succeed in the next few years, as will Northland. Most states that have been declared have failed, it is the minority that have succeeded. (Both Jubalands, Southwestern State, Hiiraanland all failed after a year or two).

There is definitely a transition period from "administration only in name" to "administration in fact", and so far only Puntland and Somaliland have succeeded in establishing administrations, though it looks as though Galmudug is on the verge of being #3.

I don't know why I bother with the distinction. Noone in Somalia recognizes the legitimacy of anyone else. It's the reason why the wars go on and on forever.
