What is or was FLIGHT #13

I don't understand that term. It became popular around 1997/1998 so I'm guessing that pre-1997 Somalis used it as a term to separate themselves from post-1997 Somalis. Which means that Flight 13 was a system that began running during that period and onward. Who knows, maybe we're on like Flight 18 or 19 now, but I guess the term stuck.

But that's just a working theory. Its not fully developed so I'm wondering if any of you smelly qaxootis can help me figure this out.

It describes the Somalis who came here in huge numbers between 1992-1995.

My dad said its because when they were in Kenya or whatever they saw the flight and all they could say is "Flight 13! Flight 13!" repeatedly.
