Do you identify yourself with a sect?

Postby Sir-Luggoyo » Wed Sep 10, 2008 8:12 am

Are you connected to any of the sects that sprung up lately or existed ions? Either Salafi, Suufi, etc etc etc? How sure are you that your sect is the right one? Do you condemn others because you are sure they are off beam?

Or, do you just say "I am a Muslim" and do your duty as a Muslim?

I don't belong to any sect

I just try my best following the Quran, Sunnah and the precedent set by the Salaf us-Saalih ( first three generations of Muslims)

If I'm not : Tableagies, Ikhwanis (courts), Takfeeriis (Al-shabab), Sufis (grave worshipers), Hizbu tahreeris (Mu'tazilas), Shia, Murjia and more groups! what would that leave me?

I would say I am a Muslim, so as those deviant groups are muslim! so wich muslim am I?

Then I would say to the one who follows Qur'an and Sunnah, So as those groups claim to follow Quran and Sunnah!

Then I would say; I follow Quran and Sunnah with the understanding of the companions of the prophet (saw) the first and the best three generations of this Ummah! which makes me in the Arabic language SALAFI.

I hope is clear Insha Allah!

Exec,

How could you be sure what precedent the Salaf-us-saaliheen set? Through what/who is your connection to them? I don't mean to put you on the spot, but just trying to figure out your reasoning.

None of us was born gifted with knowledge of Tafseer, so we must follow someone, some sheikh somewhere that we believe is a true and pious man, but are we sure that sheikh is what exactly we think he is? Every sect believe their sheikh is the one that is leading them to the Salaf-us-saaliheen, but which one exactly is the one?

I don't mean to throw some doubt in anyone's conviction, but ................................

Diyeeshaha Tolka,

Salafi_Student belongs to a Saudi sect called Salafi Jadiid/Madkhali, but he won't say it.

Sir Luggoyo,

People who join sects are usually the ignorant, people with low intelligence & those with self-steem issues that feel they must belong to some type of a franternal brotherhood to feel better about themselves.

Often times these sects have charismatic leaders who know all the key notes to say and all the simple-minded flock to them in herds. I've seen grown men abandoning their families just to be with their sects, it can leave major marks in a society.

Assalamu Alaikum

Yes before the Hanafi School of Thought

However now I look to Qur'an and Sunnah and I am a Muslim. Alhamdulilah, it has taking a few months of confusioning and lack of knowledge to stop following the madhab but alhamdulilah i feel good about the decision I made. 8)

To be honest I don't follow any sheikh I said Im trying my best to follow, the quran, sunnah and the understanding of the Salaf us-Saalih because I believe that it is the right thing to do. Coming to your next point, What sheikh to follow? Due to lack of knowledge I can't point out the most pious of them all.

I know that you are "trying to make me name Sheikhs" that I "follow". I don't follow any particular sheikh I just go with the common judgement as long as there isn't anything contridicting it in the Quran and Sunnah.

For example I can tell you this...I don't follow any Mowlid celebrating Sheikhs on the topic of Mowlid...Reason being it wasn't done during the prophet's time and he did not order his followers at the time and generations to come to celebrate his birthday.

If I give you another example, Does toughing your wife break your wudu? There are 3 juristic views regarding the issue of breaking ablution by touching women. Each of the Madhabs got their own point of view. Who do we follow?
If we read the hadith's you will find out that the prophet used to kiss his wife before going to the Mosque and pray. So based on the Hadith which is stronger than the views of the Scholars your wife doesn't break your ablution .Just giving you an example of how I look at things. sorry for my messy writing im in a rush lol

Assalamu a'leyku,

Just walk the path of the salaf and then hope for the mercy of Allah ta'laa. Walk the path dont talk it, because we find many that talk about the salaf, but very few of us are actually acting like the salaf-us-salih.

You just follow the madhab that brings forth the most hadiths pertaining to this issue. Its all about what was the normal thing the Prophet (saw) did on a daily basis and how many sahih hadiths can prove this.
