Chinese People Are Called BLACK In South Africa??????

I heard something about this but didn't paynit no mind....That is in till I came across some videos on youtube posted buy a White,a Coloured, and a Black South African.

It seems as if the government has gone and One dropped everyone. to make only two races. White and black.

Why would they do something like this

I can understand them doing it with the people that are native to Africa but Asian people as well? Its just so strange. From what I see in the videos the chinses are not putting up a fight about it either.

I always knew the whole issue of race was strange especially here in north and south america. but man. South africa really takes the cake on this one.

I can get why somalis want to be called somali and not black because somali is thier culture. Its like the girl in the second video talking about not wanting to be black because its not her culture.

Its also why I don't like to be called African because it is not my culture either.

Actually not calling ourself Black has nothing to do with culture. Its just that the reality we are not Black. We are Muslim first than Somali. Also i dont know about other but here in ATL even AA dont view me as Black. Most of the world just calles us Somali and than what ever country citizenship we have like Canadian or American. My younger siblings who were all born here are all also classified as other on their birth certificates. As for south Africa its not suprising since they are the most racially concious society in Africa.

I wouldn't protest either if I was classified as a eskimo if it meant I would get preferential treatment from the government. The Chinese were mistreated under apartheid rule so it only makes sense for them to get the rewards some blacks are enjoying in SA because of past injustices committed against them.

In reality no one is really black, or white, or brown, or yellow. These are all just labels that were given to us.

My great and great great grandson my fathers side were called mulattos. My great Grandmother on my mothers side was called a Quadroon. Their Offspring were called Colored, My parents were called black and Now I am called African American. See how silly it all is?

Im a little curious about your birth certificate claims. In america many states don't list the race on them anymore. I was born in the 80s in the south and my race is not on my BC. Niether are my younger sisters BCs.

Those that do list race will usually go by the mothers race which is why you have so many kids with white mothers and black fathers still listed as white on the BCs. Your Mother would have to be listed as an other which I doubt.

In America a person is considered black if they are the descendants of the negro slaves or they are descendent from a none northern african group. If your younger siblings have a race mentioned on their BCs at all it would be Black/African.

I think its silly to classify people by color and I think its flat out weird to call Chinese people black.

Well I guess if accepting people as they are, wanting to get rid of color labels, accepting the many cultures that I come from ( black, irish, and seminole) respecting other cultures, and being agianst stripping away a groups culture by calling them black when they really are chinese makes me sick then I don't want to ever get better

But than who gave you those labels. European right. It was Europeans who classified you Black. The French, Italians, British all came to our shores and yet still didnt classify us as such? As for my siblings they are classified as other since i live in GA i can only speak for it. As far as am aware almost all somali people in every state classify themselve as other and than write in somali. Also am not sure about it but i heard they are working on putting somali on most forums in MN and i have heard it is already the case in the UK. i have three younger siblings and they were all born after 1999. For me personally i just dont understand why AA view everything from a color point of view. No offence to you but i honestly think in this day and age AA are more racist than the average white. If AA were so pro black and everything than why did at the begining did they reject barrack obama. Because he didnt come from a slavery history. At the end of the day to me Black tends to be AA and all others i classify them as per their ethnic group.
