Somalians back their heroes of the high seas.

Asalamu alikum

The international community is going berserk due to Somalis and their piracy. I saw another article written by the Guardian (A respectful Paper in England), and the interesting thing is they never mentioned ONE word about Aid Ships and how they are affected by piracy.

However they mentioned this:

" Yet despite the obvious danger an unstable Somalia poses to the world, both the UN and the African Union have been appallingly negligent in backing efforts to forge peace there. This attitude ignores the perils that a failed state can pose to the world. It's not just a security threat, but also an economic one. The cost of shipping insurance has risen tenfold in the Gulf of Aden as a result of the piracy menace. In fact, shippers are considering avoiding the area and taking the long route around the Cape of Good Hope to North America and Europe. This will mean higher prices for goods in Western supermarkets and higher fuel costs."

They also mentioned this:

the UN says the long Somalia coast is a favourite dumping point for ships with toxic waste. Illegal fishing is rampant. Trawlers routinely use fishing methods banned years ago. :o In this context, piracy is seen as one way of benefiting from a precious water resource from which the locals have in effect been elbowed out. This enterprise is hugely profitable.

Questions that I ask myself.

Why does the international community bother in getting Navy guards from other countries?

Surely the best ways in getting rid of Pirates is for the international community to investment towards peace in Somalia?

Why aren't they pushing for peace in Somalia, isn't that one the roles of the UN?

Isn't that what they did in Congo? (Let me tell you guys that The Republic of the Congo has minerals essential to the electronic gadgetry on which the developed world depends. So I guess its in their interest that they maintain basic peace in that country. :|)

I though the role of UN has long been made reduntant by the bullying US government and its allias who reduced the UN into their favourite political spin tool, they use when ot suits them and disregard when it isn't.

Please read the http://www.medialens.org, if you are interested to know how to corporate media provides us with a distorted picture of the world.
