You're mistaken. The 7 century is the era when the prophet (salalaahu calayhi wasalam), Sahaba and best Muslims lived. Living how they lived is what formed the scientifically/technologically/militarily advanced Islamic Caliphate. Muslims tried to live other ways (like socialists, communists, liberals, democrats, anarchists, etc), but they failed to advance.

Muslims in the 7th century (and over the course of centuries) were developed compared to other nations and people. Muslims declined when they abandoned (or forced to abandon) Shariica for man-made systems (i.e. secularism, Democracy, Communism, Socialism, capitalism, etc).

Al-Shabaab are making the same classic mistakes that the Taliban and other Jihadi groups have made in the past. Unless they revamp their strategies and adapt their tactics, they will not succeed.

Classic Jihadi Mistakes:

-Emotions dictating actions.

-Short-sighted fundamentalism.

-Mixing up of priorities.

-Lack of long-term, reasonable plans.

-Finger pointing and war rhetorics that make no sense.

-Using failed war tactics and refusing to play international politics.

When the enemy is stronger than us in both weaponry & economy, Muslims have to lax their seef-labood mentality and play to the tune of the enemy until we reach a point where we can be more successful.

Mistakes are made to gain experience. Al-Shabaab didn't claim to be professionals. The Taliban have learned from their mistakes, as they have become sophisticated and professionals (refer to what a high-ranking British commander recently said about the impossibility of defeating the Taliban). In the long run, Al-Shabaab will become sophisticated and professionals, insha'Allah.

I admire their conviction and wish them success, but I can't help but feel that they're falling in to the same path that have failed others.

I've always supported Maxaakiimta including Al-Shabaab, but I'm not blinded to realize that their tactics are not as effective as they should be. When I see Abu Mansur critisizing other Maxaakiim officials, it only kills the morale of their supporters. There are times to be out-spoken & times to keep silent. I pray they learn from their mistakes and adapt.

In my book, modern Somalia includes only one contestant and that is the Revolutionary government of Siad Barre (AUN). Siad Barre built Somalia from scratch into Africa's most powerful country.
